Training Committee

The goal of the training committee is to establish, support and maintain consistent, effective training standards for CIT programs.  Recommendations put forth by the training committee rely heavily on curricula initially established and enhanced over time by the Memphis, Tennessee Police Department.  These curricula have been modified with the experience and expertise of the three leading Virginia programs to specifically address Virginia's criminal justice and mental health systems and processes.  The Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) certifies these courses for mandated law enforcement officer in-service training.  The chair of the training committee is Dean Barker with the Hampton/Newport News CIT Program.
